Crucial adds 4TB SSD to the MX500 product line

Released at the end of 2017, Crucial MX500 SSD series (This is in our list The best SSD today) Due to its consistent high performance (at least in accordance with the SATA standard), it quickly became a popular choice among cheap drives. Nowadays, users with high performance requirements prefer NVMe drives, but there are some use cases that can take advantage of high-capacity SATA SSDs. In order to solve such applications, Crucial has quietly introduced a 4TB model to the MX500 series.

Crucial’s MX500 4TB model uses a 2.5-inch form factor and continues to rely on Micron’s 3D TLC NAND memory, reports Luxury hardware. Like low-capacity SKUs, 4TB SSDs have a rated sequential read speed of up to 560 MB/s, sequential write speeds of up to 510 MB/s, and random read and write IOPS up to 90,000. It’s unclear if the Crucial MX500 4TB drive still relies on Silicon Motion’s SM2258 controller, but it’s very likely because it doesn’t make much sense to switch the controller in a 4-year-old home (unless it saves a lot of money) ) ).
