Google Today Announce It has designed a customized system-on-chip (SoC) to improve the machine learning and artificial intelligence performance of its next-generation smartphones. The company’s new chip, called Tensor, will debut in Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro with the Android 12 operating system “later this fall.”
The company uses the Tensor identifier in many of its ML and AI related projects.Its open source machine learning platform is called TensorFlowThe application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) on which Google Cloud relies is called Tensor processing unit. Now it has built a customized Tensor SoC for its own smartphone.
Unfortunately, the announcement did not provide any details-Google did not provide any information about the technical specifications of the Tensor SoC, nor did it provide a specific release date for the Pixel 6 series. But it does provide some insight into what its first mobile SoC intends to accomplish, and what it means for Android users after its debut.
“Artificial intelligence is the future of our innovative work,” Google said, “but the problem is that we have encountered computational constraints that prevent us from fully fulfilling our mission.
