How to get the full context menu in Windows 11

By far the most annoying new “feature” of Windows 11 is the truncated context menu that you get when you right-click on anything. Previous versions of Windows showed all your options, including different programs that can open files, and the new menu is limited to a few options, not necessarily the ones you want.

For example, when I installed Notepad++, a popular text editor, and then right-clicked a .txt file, I did not show the program as an option to open it. Even under the “Open With” submenu, only Windows Notepad appears. Of course, if you click “Show more options”, you can see the complete list of options, but this is an extra click you don’t have to make in Windows 10.

Maybe Microsoft thinks this is a more concise look, if users really see the full context menu immediately, they are just “at a loss.” But by simplifying the context menu, Windows 11 will waste your time and insult your IQ. Microsoft did not include an option in “Settings” to undo this antics, but there is currently a registry hack that can provide you with a complete context menu in Windows 11.

1. Open the registry. The easiest way is to press Windows + R, type regedit and press Enter.
