How to run Windows 11 on a USB drive (and take it with you)

Over the years, we have been able to make Linux Live disks that boot and run completely from a USB flash drive (or CD). These portable operating system installations are very useful when you just want to try the operating system and don’t want to mess up any platform on the internal hard drive or SSD. They are very useful when you want to carry your operating system and programs with you when you want to move back and forth between computers.

Thanks to Rufus, this is a popular free application that can create a bootable USB drive, and you can use the flash drive you carry with you for portable installation of Windows 11. To test Rufus’ “Windows to Go” function, we were able to use the same Windows 11 disk on two different computers with minimal trouble.
