Icy Dock installs 24 SSDs into three drive bays
Icy Dock, which manufactures computer data storage and enclosure peripherals for industrial and rugged computer data storage, announced the launch of ToughArmor MB924IP-B, which is designed to handle up to 24 7 mm high 2.5-inch SAS/SATA SSD/HDD. The device occupies only three full-size 5.25-inch device bays, and is commonly found on many workstation-class PCs used in enterprises.
To connect all these drives to the system, Icy Dock implemented a solution that reduces cable clutter and helps cable management. The six MiniSAS HD (SFF-8643) connectors on the back of the device connect all 24 drives to the system. If the transfer speed of each SAS drive is up to 12 Gbps, or the transfer speed of the SATA drive is up to 6 Gbps, it provides a certain amount of flexibility.
Six SATA 15-pin connectors are connected to the back of the ToughArmor device to provide power to the system. In the middle of the back, an 80mm fan is placed to provide cooling for the drive and achieve normal operating temperature. It can be controlled by a physical switch with three modes: H, L and Off. This is a standard 80mm fan that can be replaced with an after-sales solution for quieter operation.
In the event of a drive failure or simple upgrade, you can use the integrated EZ-Slide Nano 2.5-inch drive tray to hot-swap the drive. Each drive tray and the rest of the chassis are grounded by EMI. ToughArmor MB924IP-B is designed for the harshest environments and high-density storage. It is made of an all-metal structure (possibly steel), which is very suitable for industrial use cases, such as “various enterprise systems, including medical, military, law enforcement, and manufacturing conditions , Such as embedded control and factory automation systems.”
Icy Dock ToughArmor MB924IP-B is currently available $792.70 at Amazon, No mail. The product is available now; however, we do not have any information about the shipping cost.
