So far, most of us have realized that performing professional duties remotely or in the comfort of home may not be so comfortable. Now that you have gone through a long WFH setup, you may also have concluded that this is not a piece of cake. Normally, you cannot keep the two aspects of life away from each other. They will eventually become intertwined and will only reduce your work efficiency. The following are the shortcomings of WFH and how to solve them.

If you are a coder and you have a problem, you just need to lean over to the neighbor in the office and let him take a quick look. Otherwise, you will walk to the senior’s table and sit down for a quick problem-solving chat. Other times, you will gather a few people in the conference room and use the whiteboard to brainstorm. Most professionals are very efficient because they often visit the joint brains in the team. But now, you need to spend a lot of time coordinating time and clarifying what you enter in emails or chats. The simple solution is to arrange a separate 10-minute time slot with colleagues and the team every two hours, when everyone opens the video to keep up with the progress or brainstorm. Have you found that a minute of discussion in the office is now taking up a lot of your time? Miscommunication is magnified, and you can never be sure if you have achieved your goal at the end of the chat. Your only solution is to improve the content of your conversation. Do you need to upgrade Wi-Fi or change telecommunications providers for better connectivity? Can you discuss and implement family rules for isolated working hours? The more you invest in redesigning your space and time, the more calm and focused you will be. Are you a priority master? If not, now is a good time to learn it and do yourself a favor, otherwise WFH will become an endless series of tasks, sudden promises and work overflowing into the night and holidays. Start with the task list. First, complete the ones where your output/feedback affects the work of your colleagues/boss, otherwise you will deal with crisis requests and you will suspend everything else. Next, look at the upcoming deadlines and commitments to the most important people and projects. Take at least one step every day to avoid sleepless nights in the future. Schedule all thinking and creative tasks in quiet hours without emails or phone calls. Club email check and reply within a fixed time period of the day. Now, the balance time during peak team work can be used for the rest of the task list, team calls, and other interruptions. Finally, control the technology in life. Professionally, are you using everything you need to be effective or efficient?Do you only use Wechat And everyone else is on Slack and Hangouts? Can you ask the office to provide better laptops or spare hard drives to speed up work? Are there any scheduling/collaboration/co-authoring applications or tools used by colleagues you don’t want to learn? The same is true on the personal side. Is your bill payment automated? Be prepared to make the difficult decision to return to the office if circumstances permit. Call back the partner first. When these functional teams cannot sit down and work together in a public physical space, their productivity will be hit hard.
